Matthew Maloney was a world-class ACL recovery coach who didn't believe his story was worth telling on camera. Real Reels changed that — and then everything else changed too.
When Matthew Maloney began working with Real Reels in September 2024, he had roughly 90,000 followers on Instagram and almost nothing to show for them.
He was posting 4–5 times a week — consistent by any normal measure. But it was almost entirely B-roll: him jumping, performing athletic movements, demonstrating range of motion. The content had no personality, no trust-building, no direct address to camera. The videos got views sometimes, but the people they attracted were athletes who wanted to perform like him. Not ACL recovery patients searching for someone who understood their exact injury.
"It was going getting a lot of views," he said. "But we were not converting. It wasn't the quality that we wanted." His highest-tier offer topped out around $197. Close rates on sales calls were low. Matthew was running every call himself, and the people on the other end of the line needed convincing.
And talking-head video? He had done exactly two of them in his entire career. He didn't want to do more. It wasn't so much fear — it was a lack of conviction. No one had ever told him directly: this is what you need to do, this is why it works, this is what happens when you do it consistently. "I was scared to. I didn't want to at all."
"There wasn't really much of a brain behind me — is what happened. People that followed me saw me jumping, saw me doing things like that. It wouldn't attract the right people."
Matthew MaloneyWhat Matthew didn't realize — and what became the center of gravity for everything that followed — was that his story was already the most powerful marketing asset in the room. He just wasn't telling it.
Three ACL surgeries. Five major surgeries total. Visible scars on his knees. And — most unusually — a quad that didn't atrophy. That came back. That got stronger. The man who was told he might not recover, recovered. And then spent his career helping others do the same.
None of his 90,000 followers knew any of that. He was jumping for them. He wasn't talking to them.
The visual that unlocked everything was almost accidental: a close-up of his quad while explaining a recovery protocol. The muscle definition. The scars. "One of my best features — which is pretty cool after a bunch of injuries — is just how I have quad muscle." People stopped scrolling. The algorithm noticed.
When he finally started talking to camera about his surgeries — about what it felt like to be told you might not come back, and then to come back — the response was immediate. "Immediately there was so much more trust," he said. "Because I was scared to. I didn't want to at all."
"I wasn't emphasizing my story enough. I wasn't talking about the how or the why behind everything."
Matthew MaloneyReal Reels came in with one non-negotiable: Matthew was going to talk to camera. Not because it was comfortable. Because the gap between his expertise and his audience's awareness of it was the entire problem.
From there, a content system was built around his identity and story:
"It forced me to do talking heads," Matthew said. "And you gave me good ideas about what things to talk about. The quality of videos were significantly better. When it's a high-quality video, you attract more high-quality people. People look at that and they're like — that's professional."
On the January 10, 2026 call, Matthew pulled up his Instagram professional dashboard. The number in the last-30-days column: 13 million views. A month before that, it was 3–4 million.
December 2025 was the best revenue month KneeHab Academy had ever had. January 2026 was on track to beat it.
Before Real Reels, Matthew was running every sales call himself. By January 2026, he had built a sales team — upwards of 5 to 10 reps, former clients and active coaches who are deeply convicted of the product. Reps who were, in his words, “closing better than I even was in the past, at a much higher price point.” The volume of inbound calls had doubled. The quality had transformed completely.
“We get on sales calls now and people are just ready to buy,” he said. “A lot more.” Prospects show up having already watched the videos, having seen the scars, having already decided he’s the person who understands their exact injury. The call is almost a formality.
KneeHab Academy is closing in on 2,000 clients all-time. Ninety percent came for a knee injury. Seventy percent of those are ACL-specific. The testimonials have become extraordinary — clients who were told they might not walk right again, now jumping, training, and competing. The content speaks directly to that person — and only that person.
On sales calls, prospects now say things he'd never heard before: "I didn't think it was possible." "I want to be able to do things like you." "He had these injuries and I saw the scars — and now he's doing knee jumps." The story Matthew refused to tell became the story that sells everything.
"Not only have we gotten better quality people — we've gotten more of the better quality people. And that combination is just a recipe for success."
Matthew Maloney · January 10, 2026Three weeks after the 13-million-view call, Matthew was back on a strategy session — and nothing had slowed down. The "If You Do" series was still running hot. January 2026 was on track to beat December's record.
More than the numbers, something had shifted in the room: the content was pre-selling. Prospects were arriving to calls having already watched the videos, having already decided. "We're going to get consistently 30 calls, 30 plus calls booked every single day," Matthew said. "Just do this right now."
He'd also unlocked the next content engine: YouTube long-form. The plan — produce one deep-dive video (whiteboard sessions, mindset talks, protocol breakdowns) and let Real Reels turn it into a month of reels. One creative input. Two platforms worth of output. No split focus, no creative fatigue.
The content system had distilled to five core topic categories — the same ideas recycled into fresh variations, the same top-performing intros matched with new bodies. A system running on compound interest. Not chaos, not burnout. Five topics. Endless variations. Month after month.
"Everything we touch is turning to gold. Mindset Monday — almost 100K. That's never happened before."
Matthew Maloney · January 29, 2026"You change lives through content. You change way more lives with content."

Matthew refused to get on camera. Now he says content is the heart and soul of his entire business. If you're a coach who isn't showing people who you actually are — we should talk.
